Experience

Martin is a veteran in advising clients on a wide range of employment and incentive matters, including recruitment, employment transfer, termination or mass layoff, collective consultation, remuneration and incentives, misconduct investigation and employment-related agreements and documents. He is sophisticated in representing multi-national companies in contentious employment matters before labour arbitration tribunals and courts.


Martin’s key clients include various multinational enterprises, covering consulting, IT outsourcing, foods, electrical and electronic products, chemical products, aviation and cross-border trade sectors. Before joining Zhao Sheng as a managing associate, Martin was the legal counsel for two companies and an employment partner in a boutique Chinese law firm. Martin is a qualified lawyer in mainland China.

Martin’s representative experience includes:

  • advising a U.S. company on personnel transfer and integration due to the merger of two corporations involving over 400 employees in China

  • advising a French video game company on termination of employees due to dissolution and de-registration of a legal entity in China

  • advising a leading U.S. company on a social insurance compliance issue covering thousands of employees

  • advising a famous wine company on the human resource restructure of sales team

  • advising a U.S. company on human resource outsourcing arrangement, and on its disputes with a human resource service provider and outsourced staff

  • advising a U.S. food company on the misconduct of a general manager and negotiation for termination

  • representing a Greek company in a series of arbitrations and litigations involving the ex-general manager and his followers (ex-deputy general manager and other senior management personnel), where the claims amounted to RMB 12m

  • assisting a French company in the investigation and termination of a general manager in China for embezzlement, and representing the client in the labour dispute arbitration and subsequent litigation proceedings

  • advising several multi-national companies on investigation into employees' misconducts and assisting in interview with employees and negotiation for termination
